WINSTON SALEM STORM ANNOUNCE NEW HEAD COACH, DREW CONE

Waco, Texas Waco Royal’s new Head Coach, Mamadou Diene, was born in Senegal on May 23rd, 1987. He graduated from Baylor University, earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications in 2009. As the first in his family to attend college, he fulfilled his highest potential by achieving many student-athlete awards. Some included the 2008 Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award, Big 12 Sportsman of the Year 2008, and Second All-Time Shot-Blocker at Baylor University.

As a youth, he grew up in a neighborhood where he was faced with many adversities, leaving room for only one thing—determination. After suffering from the loss of his parents, Mamadou made it his mission to dedicate himself to helping children from his old community. This same passion led him to be a non-profit that supports children with housing, food, transportation, and clothes. The organization’s current goal is to develop a way for them to provide essential medical supplies to the community.

Mamadou Diene has been living in Waco, Texas, for over 15 years—a city that calls him “Mayor of Waco.” He plans to take his coaching experience of over six years to the Waco Royals organization. Mamadou remains hopeful about his new journey as Head Coach for the basketball organization.

“I have been in Waco for over 15 years, and I am excited to see a professional team come to the city. I believe a team will make the city more desirable to visit and create new jobs and growth. I like to consider myself an ambassador for Waco, and I will do my best to represent Waco at the highest level. We need the community to help us build this team, and we are counting on all of you,” he said.

Mamadou’s positive energy may prove to be contagious for the team, organization, and entire city.

 Let’s go, Royals!!
